Who We Are
Florijn Care Ltd. is a specialist provider of social care, both residential and supported living schemes, for working age adults with Learning Disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Mental Health issues and associated challenging behaviours. Owned and managed by people with over 30 years’ experience in the field, we are committed to providing person-centred, quality care in the community, rather than in low secure facilities, as has too often been the case historically.
Florijn offers medium to long-term rehabilitation, occasionally respite provision, with various individualised, therapeutic options for our service users. Facilitated by a robust process of assessment and individual care pathway development, addressing all aspects of risk and need, Florijn has repeatedly proved itself able to manage and support the most difficult and disruptive of service users within its existing, highly specialised services.
We typically provide care for people currently placed within low secure hospitals, who may be looking at community placements which have less reliance on physical security measures but with more emphasis on Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), often under the Transforming Care framework. Additionally, we provide care for people presently in other settings no longer considered appropriate to their needs, recognising their right to live and be supported in an environment more likely to meet those needs.
Florijn Care operates both residential care homes and supported living schemes located within walking distance of each other. This ensures that service users living in either environment benefit from continuity of staff support across our services, without compromising the stringent infection prevention and control (IPC) measures in place, particularly important during a pandemic. We pride ourselves on offering environments which are of high quality yet are homely and furnished to reflect the preferences and tastes of each resident. Several of our service users have been supported to progress from residential to more independent living, with minimal disruption, generally exceeding their own expectations and previous experience.
How do we manage more complex and challenging service user needs?
Our homes operate to reflect the principles and associated best practice of Positive Behaviour Support and proactive service-user engagement, reflecting the collective knowledge and understanding we have about our service users and the consequent actions taken to maximise their health, safety and well-being.
